Trusting Our Horseman

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

The Lord has revealed to us the way to eternal life of joy and bliss in His presence: repent, believe, and trust God fully. It’s ever so simple. So plain. Trust God. Rely on Him completely. Let go of the wheels of your life and let Him take over and rule over You, which is the right thing to do. It’s all in black and white, all clear as day, what we needed to do.

But we could never really quite do the complete trusting. It’s plain and simple, yet somehow its simplicity doesn’t make the total surrender any easier. We could not quite find the heart to give up our carriage to the horseman. We simply could not let go of the reins, even though we knew nothing of riding horses, and despite the fact that our driver is the best one there is. We’re just too anxious to trust another being, too proud to let another take over our lives.

But we’re not getting anywhere good with us holding the reins. Let the Lord drive your carriage–He’s already driving it, but you’re trying so hard to hold on to those controls. Don’t. Stop trying to make things better by your own efforts. Trust God, trust Him completely, and walk humbly before Him.

May this be so. Amen.
