The Lord’s Attributes

Posted: June 26, 2016 in Journals

The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, and the LORD will by no means clear the guilty. His way is in whirlwind and storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. (Nahum 1:3)

Nahum in his entire writing focused on God and His attributes. He described a God of justice and of great power. He described a God working wonders. The Lord’s attributes are cataloged. He is slow to anger. God’s patience will never run dry that easily. He spent more than 40 years dealing with the cries and grumblings of the Jews. He endured centuries of man doing nothing but evil. He is slow to anger. He is also great in power. He can work wonders in the life of men if He chooses to. He is powerful enough to redeem a people for His name.

But He will also by no means clear the guilty. He requires reckoning on those who deserve it. He is mighty in power. His way is in the whirlwind and the storm–cleansing everything that comes along the way. Strongly. Indiscriminatingly. And the next image? “The clouds are the dust of His feet.” The clouds. The wondrous, beautiful, intricately designed clouds–they are but the dust of His feet. They are made simply because the Lord walks over them. This ever-amazing aspect of creation is made low, made insignificant, in comparison with the glory of God. How majestic art Thou!

I love the dust of your feet, Lord. Thank you for making such wonderful wisps. May they ever remind me of how far more worthy of admiration and praise You are.
