Faithful and Faultless

Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him. (Daniel 6:4)

Daniel had been put in a position where he would be watched with so many pairs of prying eyes, waiting for him to stumble, to miss a step, to get sidetracked, so they can point an accusing finger on him and make him perish. But he never faltered. He never lost the validity of his testimony over some darling sin he had been hiding. No error or fault was found in him. He remained blameless, even before God (v. 22). The result of this was that he was given deliverance from his enemies and from his affliction. He was delivered from the mouth of the lions–an otherwise sure death.

Daniel lived his life maintaining a godly, faultless testimony before God and man. He lived his life in fear of the Lord, abiding by His laws and precepts. Inevitably, he was found blameless and excellent among all men. He was esteemed highly. We too have the same duty–to live our lives in a manner worthy of our calling, to proclaim the Gospel in our every action. How do we fare? How do you fare? Would your testimony have rendered you blameless before all these prying eyes? Or would you be “weighed in the balances and found wanting”? We have our battle to fight. Does your life make you fit for winning the fierce battle? Would it have delivered you from your own den of lions? Would your testimony be enough to make kings fast to pray for your safety and deliverance, or would they have not cared at all about what comes out for you? This is our war. Your war. Are you winning it?

Let me win my battles, Lord. Enable me to live a life of strong testimony of your grace. Cleanse my every action and intention, that I may be faultless to stand before Your throne. Let my life be dictated by Your word alone, that they too might find me blameless. Grant me deliverance from my afflictions through Your grace working its way in me and every aspect of my life.
